Yes *NIX is only a short term offering for certain customers and something which I am not totally commited to, and quite agreee UNIX was the O/S of the 60/70's. OS/2 and NT are of the 90's and I feel that I can not offer any alternative to XP as there is no viable alternative which customers want 'brainwashed' ? MAC OS9 was very good though it was based on an O/S of the 80's, but feel OSX is a backward step, very hard to justify the cost of Apples to Customers. MS-DOS (was it not based on CP/M which itself was based on *NIX) and feel that it is an 80's O/S and should be left to die gracefully. Windows Vista will be the last O/S of any note and not something I am looking forward to supporting. There are no new O/Ses for the Millenium and in the next decades we will all go back to *NIX for Set ToP Boxes with IPTV/Browser capabilities, that is the future. In a nutshell I believe that an O/S should be left to die if it serves no usefull purpose. |
